One of the latest buzz words out in the AV market these days is 4K resolution. This resolution brings you images that are 4 times higher than 1080p. With this being driven mostly by the consumer industry it has caused a panel race by the manufacturers to put out the next best 4K panel. With mostly every major manufacturer of Flat panel displays putting out 4K pieces choosing the correct piece is a task on its own. But in the Pro A/V market there is not as much to choose from when it comes to true 4K panels. Some manufacturers offer very large panels and others, like Sharp, offer a smaller 32” piece the PN-K321 or their new touch capable 4K piece PN-K322B. The limited options of true 4K panels in the Pro A/V market simplifies deciding which panels to use in a particular application.
The application of the 4K project will assist greatly in deciding which panel to use, whether it is one of the larger format panels or one of the smaller pieces out there on the market. For example in a financial institute a smaller 4K piece would greatly assist someone who is crunching numbers all day with spreadsheets that are filled with tons of information or a retail application in a jewelry store might want a smaller panel to pull up a ring design and have it shown in 4K to see every aspect. An application where both a large and small 4K piece can be used would be in an architect’s office, where the a 32” panel can be used in the design stage of a project and to use a large 84” panel or video wall to show the potential client what the finished project can look like at 4 times the resolution of 1080p. Once the application is decided next would be on to the content.
The next 2 things to consider go hand in hand with one another the content and the media player. These are two very important pieces because without them the displays won’t be able to show anything. The content can be anything from still images to full motion video. The toughest challenge out there is to find someone who can create what the end user wants, that being said Almo Pro AV offers content creation services to assist our resellers to fill that tough void. Understanding what the end user ultimately wants is the one most important aspect of any project. Once the content is created the next step is to find the proper media player to handle such a high resolution. The most common that I have seen is a PC with a high end video card and processor to handle the content. One thing that needs to be accounted for especially with 4K content is that it takes up a lot of space when it comes to memory and storage of the images or video. By combining these 3 things content, media player and the proper 4K panel small or large your project should be a success.
