When you come right down to it, I spend more time in my office than any room in my house. So I’ve gone to great lengths to make sure I’m surrounded by stuff that perpetually puts me in a good mood in my office. A Roberto Clemente jersey, 6 mugs commemorating the 6 Pittsburgh Steelers Superbowl wins, a Mario Lemieux signed jersey and a football signed by Terry Bradshaw and a large picture of my daughter swimming at Cornell amongst other sports memorabilia are on display. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I grew up in Pittsburgh. I guess some would say I’ve taken the “man cave” approach to my office and I’m okay with that.
One thing that was missing was a large TV – or monitor I should say – because obviously I’m not watching TV in my office. It was time. I was ready for 4K! So when I got an e-mail from product management saying the new Seiki Pro 40” SM40UNP 4K monitor was in stock at Almo, and had 2 HDMI & 2 Display port inputs, I said sign me up. All four connections can be used simultaneously via picture-in-picture mode that displays four Full HD screens on the one 4K display. Frankly, I didn’t even know Seiki had a pro line, but the price was right and product management assured me it was a solid product.
The monitor came in great packaging (which I know may seem like a random thing to write about but when you see as many damaged shipments as I do, its very important.)
Set-up of the monitor was a cinch. It comes with a sleek looking stand that just pops on the back and you’re done.
We ditched my 26” dual monitors, hooked it up to the dock and voila – the man cave office, now in 4K.
Of course I had to have a great screen saver for my new TV, I mean monitor. So the graphics department hooked up with this great picture of Ben Roethlisberger out on the field celebrating. In 4K, I can read the plays on this arm. Hope the Patriots aren’t using this monitor.
But more importantly, I’m abundantly more productive than with the dual monitors because I can have four windows open at once. Comparing complex spreadsheets is so much easier now. Besides looking really great on my desk, it is helping me work more efficiently.
If you are ready to make the move to 4K in your office, check out the Seiki Pro monitor. It’s a winner (just like my 6 time Superbowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers).
