Outdoor venues trying to find ways to bring an audience everything from live shots of performers on a stage, up-to-date scoreboards, and instant information like the outdoor video walls in Time Square. In the past, many Pro A/V integrators have passed on bidding outdoor LED jobs because they simply didn’t have access to products that would allow them win these opportunities. In addition, there’s a learning curve on how to install these products with things such as state and local signage codes, pixel pitches, etc. We see it every day, an integrator gets a good indoor job at a casino but fails to bid the large digital LED boards outside. Guess what? The opportunity outside would net you more profit than the indoor opportunity almost every time.
So what about those pixel pitches? There are several things to consider when choosing what size pixel pitch should be used for certain applications. (For those of you who don’t know, pixel pitch is the distance from the center of one pixel to the center of the next pixel on an LED board.) As a rule of thumb, the farther away from the board, the larger the pixel pitch should be. Your application and business objectives will determine what size pixel pitch to use for the project. Almo’s partner ADTI Media offers three options to accommodate various viewing distances: 10MM for 35 feet away, 16MM for 85 feet away, and 20MM for125 feet away. If your goal is to give your customers an outdoor video wall experience that will allow them to play content that is comparable in image quality to indoor video wall content, then I recommend ADTI Media SkyPanelTM 10MM.
Outdoor signage has evolved from static signs to a running LED boards and now to massive displays (like the Churchill Downs massive board). We partnered with ADTI Media because they have developed a modular video wall solution that shines in both image clarity and ease of installation. Some features of the ADTI Media SkyPanelTM products come with ADTI Media Sky ShowTM , an easy scheduling software or an HDMI input for flexibility to use almost any third party media player to drive the content to the boards. The modules come with a “Zero Edge” which allows for a future increase in size as your customers budget expands. It is also a fully weatherized product with an IP67 outdoor rating for use in harsh weather environments. Think of a place where you can attach the back structure such as a brick wall on the side of a building or hanging it for a backdrop to a concert stage and the ADTI Media SkyPanelTM line of Outdoor Modular Video Walls will work when other products are too heavy or too costly.
So don’t pass up the outdoor LED signs! The sign companies are taking that business and making great profits, why shouldn’t you?
